A sharply divided Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that the Trump administration must comply with a district court order and pay out nearly $2 billion in foreign assistance funds to nonprofit aid groups for work already completed on the government’s behalf.
The court ruled 5-4 with Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett siding with the liberal justices.
But will they?
I have been watching this case for a little while and it looks like the most likely one to show how much power the judicial branch has under this administration.
I would wager the answer is “none”, but we won’t know for sure until it happens.
Maybe not as much as we would like, but each court order gives departments more leverage to resist illegal executive orders. We’ll see more and more examples like USADF barring DOGE from entering the building.
Well with that entire department fired or laid off there’s no one to get funds where they are needed.
Shocking. I figured the supreme court was just a Trump yes-man now.
This freeze hurt private companies.
And everyone knows that companies are a higher class citizen than people, so the court defended the companies.
The Supreme Court also desperately wants to uphold the make-believe idea that they are legitimate. Which means they might occasionally rule against Trump just to support that narrative.
Only on the really important stuff.
