Just after 05:00 GMT on Tuesday, Trump announced that the ceasefire had taken effect.
“Please do not violate it!” he urged both sides in a post on his Truth Social platform.
I mean, he said please?
Look, I don’t want this war to continue and for more innocent people to die… But I do feel a slight tinge of joy when this big baby removed looks like the big baby removed he is. Art of the deal, amiright?
Edit: just learned how to properly format quotes
Edit 2: it would appear at the time of my posting this, there had been no further incidents and the ceasefire currently stands. Apologies for the outdated info.
Yeah I don’t mean to detract from the other atrocities taking place. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s half the intent behind a lot of this.
What a world we live in where I’m locked in a moral dilemma because my country and president are the baddies, so I want to see them fail, but in this case that failure means yet another war stretches on in this decade and hundreds of thousands of people will die.
Like, on the one hand, Trump has egg on his face. But on the other hand, genocide.
I was going to make a joke like “I wanna get off this ride now” but everything’s so fucked, that feels wrong and disengenous. Humor as a coping mechanism is getting less and less effective by the tweet.
I’m sure Israel losing the USA’s support (military, financial, political) generally, and Trump’s uncritical support specifically, would end “The Middle East Conflict” pretty quickly. Which is basically what most Arab countries in the region have been saying for decades. There really is no dilemma in wanting your government to collapse - and maybe their support of Israel with it.
Or maybe I misunderstood you.
Nope, you nailed it, though I don’t think I was cognisant of it before. This experiment has failed and is dragging everyone else down with it. Time to burn it down. I just wish doing so didn’t mean many of my countrymen will suffer and die. Myself, my friends, and the other sane and decent Americans not excluded.
