Re-enabled experimental wake-on-bluetooth support for Steam Deck LCD, including support for LE peripherals

Just tested this with Xbox Series controllers. They are indeed able to wake up my SD LCD now, whereas only Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers (non BLE) used to work before.

Interesting on paper, but good luck running games with that setup.

If I understand correctly this basically starts a container which itself spawns a VM running windows. Good for running Minesweeper and probably not much else.

The short answer is: you don’t unfortunately.

You already listed what the options are. The Xbox app and UWP games are not an option on SteamOS, and Windows support is suboptimal. As for Xbox cloud, it’s alright as long as you have a good internet access, which kind of defeats the purpose of a handheld.

Definitely worth it ! Getting rid of the Delta fan high pitch whine certainly made me use my SD more.

I did the fix today, with a small strip of electric tape folded in 2. Hopefully it holds long enough to get to the Steam Deck 2 🤞

Maybe if I could find an adequate one, but it’s likely to be expensive and they could as well break it for good.

I tried it out. The current lack of BLE support excludes a fair number of controllers (Steam Controller, Xbox Series Controller amongst them). Waking with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller works but getting the controller to properly connect after that is finnicky, oddly enough.

Circuit Superstars runs beautifully on the deck. Do not be fooled by its top down point of view, it actually leans towards simulation rather than arcade (aka “simcade”).

On the other side of that coin, BlazeRush is full on arcade mayhem. It is also top down PoV, which I find lends itself very well to portable gaming.

Yes it seems Bridgy Fed is opt-in for pretty much everything, so using a fediverse account to access bluesky content is not really an option.

Bought these to make the most out of those shipping costs. I do not tinker all that much, but having adequate tools like those certainly is a big help.

I also used them to replace the sticks of a Nintendo Switch joy cons with hall effects ones. I saw that similar components are available for the SD, but I currently have no drift problem, so …

It was OK but not great. I used the official dock and had frequent peripherals issues which could were only solved by rebooting both the SD and the dock. Turning it off and on again is more a Windows that a Linux thing usually, so that was disappointing.

On the software side, the “flatpak” way of applications delivery usually works well, except when the Discover “store” randomly chooses to offer downgrades instead of upgrades. I used software such as Firefox, GIMP, LibreOffice, OpenShot, OpenRGB, LosslessCut, LocalSend with no hassle.

As expected, gaming performance on a 1080p screen was not as smooth as the native SD screen resolution. I would not recommend it for games needing a bit of oomph unless you are fine with sub 30fps.

Also last time around Wine support was broken for like 6 months and no one found a workaround. It was Roblox devs who re-enabled it later.

• If you stick to verified games on Steam, there is little need for tinkering, if at all.
• If you do want to tinker, this well is so deep it can become a hobby in and of itself.
• As for recommendations for single player games, there are so many and often heavily discounted. Somewhat randomly, I’m going to suggest Prey (FPS, scifi setting) and Sniper Elite 4 (TPS, WW2 setting). Get them on sale !
